What you can expect when you work with me
My journey has been unique but also common in today’s working world. After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the West Virginia Institute of Technology (part of WVU), I began working as a Telecommunications Engineer for Columbia Gas in Charleston, WV. It quickly became apparent that I had no desire to be an engineer the rest of my life and managing people is not something I had a desire for either. I began working on my Masters of Business Administration degree in night school, focusing on personal financial and investing, while working full-time at Columbia Gas.This thing called the Internet was starting to become popular while I was earning my MBA. After completing that degree, I moved to Raleigh, NC to begin working as a Product Manager for an internet startup – and starting a small investment club at work. Like most internet startups, we burnt through a tremendous amount of money in a short period of time and went out of business. Quite an experience. I then started working as a Product Manager for a company called Tekelec. If you’ve ever switched mobile phone carriers and kept your phone number, Tekelec’s Local Number Portability product made that happen. While working there, I travelled the world and helped friends, family and co-workers with the asset allocation of their 401(k)’s - making sure investments are in proper sectors is critical to success.
Finally, in 2007, I made the decision that helping people with their investments was what I really wanted to do and in the fall of that year, I passed the required exams to become a financial advisor and began working at Ameriprise Financial. In February 2022, I moved from Raleigh, NC to Ocean Isle Beach, NC and in 2025 I left Ameriprise and founded Blue Pointe Wealth Management.
Telecommunications Engineer to Product Manager to Financial Advisor. Small town West Virginia to travelling the world to Ocean Isle Beach. It’s been quite an interesting journey. Where do you want your journey to take you?
